چکیده
The toxic cyanides in gold cyanide residues produced the cyanidation process of extraction threaten environmental safety and inhibit recovery valuable metals. In this study, removal through persulfate-advanced oxidation was investigated, heat activation ultrasonic were tested for removal. results showed that residue could be removed by 2.0 wt.% potassium persulfate at pH 10.0 after 60 min reaction with a efficiency 53.47%. increased to 62.18% T = °C 74.76% an power 100% activation. content leaching solution ultrasonic-activated (3.84 mg/L) reached national standard China. Two kinds free radical scavengers, tert-butanol methanol, used investigate generation radicals. both SO4•− HO• accelerated cyanide, played major role under alkaline conditions. According XPS analysis, focused on rather than pyrite residue. More transferred from liquid phase, leading high has potential application prospects treatment residues.

Cyanide: gold minings devastating killer
Cyanide is highly toxic Cyanide is one of the most toxic chemical substances on Earth. Cyanide is toxic to most aquatic life and humans, even at low concentrations. Its use in gold mining is controversial. The extreme toxicity of cyanide arises from its readiness to react with other elements and hence interfere with normal biological processes. Cyanide gas is a biological weapon and was used in...
متن کامل2-Chlorophenol Removal of Aqueous Solution Using Advanced Oxidation Processes Resulting from Iron/ Persulfate and Ultra Violet/ Persulfate
Background: Advanced oxidation processes are used to remove toxic aromatic compounds with low biodegradability, such as 2-chlorophenol. This study investigates the use of Sulfate (SO4-) and persulfate (S2O82-) radicals, as one of the advanced oxidation methods, to remove 2- chlorophenol from aquatic solutions. Materials and Methods: This experimental and pilot-scale study was carried out usi...
متن کاملFerrate(VI) oxidation of zinc-cyanide complex.
Zinc-cyanide complexes are found in gold mining effluents and in metal finishing rinse water. The effect of Zn(II) on the oxidation of cyanide by ferrate(VI) (Fe(VI)O(4)(2-), Fe(VI)) was thus investigated by studying the kinetics of the reaction of Fe(VI) with cyanide present in a potassium salt of a zinc cyanide complex (K(2)Zn(CN)(4)) and in a mixture of Zn(II) and cyanide solutions as a func...
متن کاملFerrate(VI) Oxidation of Aqueous Cyanide
The rates of oxidation of cyanide with Fe(VI) were measured as a function of pH (8.0-12) and temperature (1530 °C). The reaction was found to be first order for each reactant. The rates decrease with increasing pH. The energy of activation was found to be 38.9 ( 1.0 kJ mol-1 at pH 9.0. The removal of cyanide by oxidation with Fe(VI) was studied at pH 7.5, 9.0, and 12.0. Fe(VI) removal efficienc...
متن کاملComparison of Adsorption Properties of Activated Carbons with Different Crops Residues as Precursors for Gold Cyanide Recovery: An Iranian Gold Industry Guide
Adsorption of gold cyanide on three types of Activated Carbons (ACs) has been investigated in batch and column adsorption conditions. Applied ACs have been derived from different crops precursors i.e., coconut shell (CAC), peach stone (PAC), and walnut shell (WAC). As peach stone and walnut shells are abundant agricultural residues in Iran, the activated carbons produced from these precurso...
